As the title reads, Noob here – getting back into the sport. Loving it! I’m located in Denver and am always down for a ride, esp. my days off, Sun, Mon, and Tues.

Here is a ride and description we took today:

Well we got off to a late start (4:30) due to my buddy getting off work a little later than we expected. Thanks to the 90 degree day, there was nothing to worry about and plenty of daylight left.

We started at the top trailhead off of Flagstaff road, heading down to the second trailhead where we were met by the infamous trail sign.

We made a quick decision to go left instead of right (one we would regret later) and started the loop (downhill at this point) around Walker Ranch.

The first third of the loop (if you go left) is virtually ALL downhill with some great fire break roads, beautiful single track through the forests and even a small part by the river. During our frequent chat back and forth the general theme was "if we’ve gone downhill this much… there’s only one thing that awaits" and you all know what that is.

So we came out by the river (crossed it on a bridge) and started our grueling climb uphill. Now when I say grueling, I mean technical. I don’t think I’m ever going to be able to climb what we faced during the first leg of our uphill battle…

That’s a shot taken by my buddy, who was a little higher than I… and obviously happy about it

We didn’t give up.. we kept on trucking..

And eventually we made it to a beautiful overlook with the river beneath. Time for a victory shout

This was only about 40% of the way through the loop. The rest of the way was probably 70% up and 30% down. Many more views to be had and many more pictures to be taken but we were wasted!

If you’re wondering why he isn’t wearing a brain bucket, he left it in his car back in boulder! (we carpooled).

All in All a GREAT day.

Welcome to the site Jameseroni. That gravity thing, love it and hate it at times. What goes up must come down, but for us its mountain bikers its more of a what goes down must come up hehe. Whenever possible I like to do the uphill part first and finish with a downhill. Still looks likes the climb didn’t hurt you too bad and you had a great ride. Welcome again.

Welcome to Singletracks! Glad to have you and to hear that you are having fun. What was the name of the trail you guys were riding?

    • #81033

Is that what I’ve been doing wrong? Here I’ve been thinking the bike was supposed to carry me… 😼

Pretty gnarly (and beautiful) looking trail…

Thank god this was only one small section of the trail..

The name of the trail is Walker Ranch, just west of Boulder in the hills.

      Welcome to the site!

I was more curious why he was wearing no shirt…road (trail) rash is a B*TCH.

I was out at Deer Creek Canyon this morning with a couple of friends.

Yes but you’ll still be alive after trail rash! You bonk your head, you’re pretty much toast.

I wouldn’t suggest riding with no shirt on down here in Louisiana or over by ChiliPepper in Florida. You won’t have to worry about trail rash or anything else because you will probably pass out from the loss of blood. Mosquitos here are as big as birds and they’re ruthless…. 😀

      Mosquitoes? What are those? 😃

    • #81039

Folks in the south always complain about the mosquitoes. I guess they never experienced black fly season. Those are the true blood sucking demons.

I’m actually from Maine, so I am familiar with mosquitoes, black flies…and humidity.

I don’t miss any of those one bit!

    • #81041

Maddslacker, I am originally from NH and the black flies and mosquitos are worse up north then they are in the south east. Now ticks are another story…….

    • #81042

      agreed on both.

I’ll take the West for the rest of my natural life… 😃
