I am planning a MTB trip for December. Normally, when I ride somewhere new I find a local guide/coach and get a lesson, rental, and an introduction to the area all in one go. I’ve had some great guides on previous trips and some who are not worth writing home about. I’d like to reduce the chances of the second with some guidance from this community.
I’m targeting the west/southwest for this trip, with probably 3 destinations total. Currently I am considering the following: Moab, Phoenix, Tuscon, Sedona, LA area, and SF area. I’m also open to other destinations Rockies and west, if there are great guides/destinations I should consider.
A bit about me, I am a strong intermediate rider always looking to improve. Most of my riding is in New England, with some riding in CO, AZ, and SF. I am looking for a private guide who can adapt the ride to my skill-set for the right level of challenge to make it fun. I am not interested in group rides/lessons. I will need to rent a bike.
With that, any recommended guides / coaches / outfitters in any of those destinations?
