I’m trying to decide between the 2015 Lust 1 (aluminum) and Lust Advanced 2 (Carbon composite). I tried the 2014 Lust 1 size xs and it fits good and is very light – as light as the Advanced 2 I’m told so the components and front shock must be lighter. I want to add a dropper post and would go with a 1×11 and lighter wheel set on either bike to lighten up more. One problem is the advanced 2 won’t be available till late March and I worry that date could be set back later since it happened last year. So, is the carbon worth the weight or are the components more important and are there other bikes out there I should be looking at? I’m 5 feet tall, older and not very aggressive – just love getting out in the mountains for long rides.

Wow, you sound just like me last year. I got a Lust 2 advanced last year and love it. Before I picked it up, I had the LBS put on 1×11 drivetrain, carbon bars, and a lighter seatpost and saddle. I also had them put on a set of Stans Crests that I bought on ebay. I kept the stock fork, shock, brakes and cranks. Later I added a Lev dropper seatpost.
I understand that Giant ‘s aluminum frames are not much heavier than carbon, so I guess it just depends on whether you think it’s worth a few extra hundred for carbon. Carbon is stiffer, so if you’re concerned about flex, that may be a consideration. I don’t worry about flex because I’m light and not doing big jumps or anything.
I’m 5’4 and have the small size. It fits me great and I love everything about the bike. They were hard to find last year and it sounds like they’re popular again this year. I noticed a lot of men around my area were buying them for their wives for Christmas. Nice gift!
Let us know what you decide.

If I were you, I’d probably go with the 2014 Lust 1 if you can get a deal on it!
