If you’ve been following the Sustainable Trails Coalition (STC) campaign to get access for bikes in Wilderness areas, you’ve probably heard the group has raised enough funds for two lobbyists in DC. A draft bill is in the works and at this point, the STC and their advisers recommend a letter writing campaign to let representatives know how we feel about bikes in wilderness.

We are now at the point where we need to have each of you, and your friends, write a letter to your legislators in Congress (representatives and senators). Our D.C. advisers recommend physical letters, not emails, as snail mail indicates that someone feels particularly strongly about an issue. They also recommend that we not use a form letter—all letters should be personal and individualized. So we are not going to say anything more than you should tell them how you feel about lack of bike access in Wilderness and on the Pacific Crest and Continental Divide trails.

I just mailed letters to my senators and congressman (first time doing this) and it felt pretty good. If you don’t know who your representatives are, this is a good opportunity to learn who they are! This website looks that info up for you, including mailing addresses.

Thanks for sharing Jeff. It’s interesting to note the approval ratings on that site. Mine are averaging a whopping 28%!
