What’s the best way to keep your toes from going numb in 30 degree weather? Toe covers, full shoe covers, what kind of material?

I got some Smartwool socks for down to about 35 or so. I’m planning to get some Gore Windstopper toe covers for colder than that. Meanwhile I’ve been riding my fat bike with flat pedals and winter boots.

I just wear a regular pair of ankle socks (cotton) with my fox socks (cotton knee high) over it with my shoes. I don’t break snow boots out until the single digits or if I’m gonna need the extra traction up hill in the snow. Best thing, layer up and with different materials to see what sock combination with shoe is best for you. If you’re going to go wool, don’t get them too thick or your shoes will be soaked as well. Also make sure you can at least wiggle your toes to get sufficient circulation, just in case it’s not the cold. 😃 Stay warm.

What I found best was British army issue goretex socks. I bought some on ebay for cheap and they are fantastic. I wear then over a light merino wool hiking sock and have been warm even up to -50C riding my bike.
