Am truely addicted to this sport and have been riding since the mid
nineties. I’m from the Mid Ohio River Valley in western WV. My son, age 13 now, has been riding singletrack with me since he was 5. We ride all over WV ( Love the mountain counties and the Monongahela National Forest ), ride the Wayne National Forest in OH often.

I love to post ride reports and keep Trail reviews up to date. Looks like
this is an awesome forum and I always hope to learn something new
from the experiances of our fellow mountain bike riders.

Well, just when I found a forum I thought ODN couldn’t find me at, here he is. Just kidding. Good to see you here. Looking forward to those ride reports from you and Scott24. This forum is a lot of fun and has posters world-wide. See you at "The Cove" sometime. May hit Douthat Saturday if this incoming ice storm doesn’t freeze everything up.

ODN…just wanted to say hello. New to the forum and somewhat new to mountain biking. I’ve only been riding for around a year and a half. I’ve ridden Kanawha State Forest, Barboursville River Trail, and Beech Fork (Lost Trail and Mary Davis Trail). I’m in between Huntington and Charleston. Any other suggestions for rides I may be missing out on?

      Hey WestVirginiaMTBR,
Hello to you also and welcome to the board and a belated welcome to the sport. You will likely soon become an adict as most of us are 😀

I’ve ridden a bunch of trails here in WV as you may have seen by the trails section, however KSF is the only one down in your immediate area I have ridden. So you’ve ridden more right around there then I have. You should post those up under the trails section.

I ride Charles Fork Lake up at Spencer a couple times a year and it’s a fun place. Just don’t go there too early in the year or too late. The WVMBA race is held there about mid May so ride there early May or for a couple months after. Much sooner then that and you’ll do more hike-a-bike over trees than you will riding. Much after that and you’ll be fixing four or five flats in one loop (thorns and briars) and fighting off some of the biggest darn spiders you’ll ever see. Go during the time period I mentioned and it is a total blast.

Now, if you want to venture a little farther up the road you can always come up my way and ride at Mountwood Park. Awesome singletrack there. I’m kinda partial to those since the mountain bike organization I’m in does most the trailwork on those trails 😃

South of you I know there is some ridding but then again I haven’t ventured that way much. My son and I are kinda into the technical, rocky, rooty, muddy, steep stuff that takes you hours to ride so we travel often to the mountains, ie Monongalia, Tucker, Pendleton and Pocahontas Counties. Dearly love those areas.

I’m an old slow guy but would be glad to show you around Mountwood or Charles Fork (when the times right there) or any of the other trails over in the mountains. I’m game to play tourguide whenever I go over to those areas. I’ll just post up any of our trips which sometimes are spur of the moment. My camera makes me even slower, because I’m always stopping and taking pictures. Can’t have enough ! Keep the good ones and delete the rest is the way I look at it.

Well, sorry to ramble. Again Welcome to the board and if I can be of any assistance finding a trail, sending you any maps I have made or have of trails, ride suggestions, etc., drop me a PM. I’ll be glad to help where I can. I’ve been trying to get the WV trails section up to date. I couldn’t believe there were very few trails listed there.

      Keep the rubber side down….

If I’m ever up your way I may take you up on that offer. I like to ride as many different places as possible.

I will definitely have to get some pics of Beech Fork (Lost and Mary Davis Trails) and Barboursville River Trail up. By the way, how do the trail rankings work?

Hey WVMTBR, sorry I’m just getting back to you on this. Been busy making sure everyone knew about Elk River Touring Center, Snowshoe, and the Pocahontas County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau sponsoring the wilderness plan.

Anyway, I’m not really sure where those ratings come from. I noticed some of the Slatyfork area got higher ratings, maybe they go by how many read or ride them. I notice you can rate the trails, photos, etc. Maybe the moderator will see this an answer our question. I haven’t been on this site for very long myself and when I saw it was so lacking on trails listed under WV I got busy since I ride to many. Again, welcome.

Hey, by the way, will you help us save the trails? If so, just go the the West Virginia Mountain Bike Associations site, WVMBA.com and scroll down just a bit. You will see where to sign a pettition. Thanks and ride on!

      ODN
