Just read that US Senate candidate Rob Portman from Ohio was injured in a mountain bike accident over the weekend. Portman was riding with his 18 year old son in Jackson Hole, WY and needed surgery on his fractured collarbone.

I’m not sure I would have known Portman was a mountain biker if his injury hadn’t made the news. Anyone know of any other mountain biking political candidates lurking around?

I assume everyone knows that W rode some. More as a fitness thing tho from what I’ve read.

Here’s the difference between a politician mountain biker and the rest of us:

…a post-surgery tweet stated that his collarbone is now titanium-reinforced and stronger than ever.

When I broke my collarbone in a mountain bike crash, the orthopedist told me, "We could do surgery, but you’re not a model or anything so it will just heal on it’s own."

Any idea on how Portman voted on things like renewing the Recreational Trail Grant Program?

He’s not a senator yet…he’s running for office.

From 1993 to 2005, Portman served in the U. S. House of Representatives representing Ohio’s 2nd congressional district,

from a google search I did before I asked how he may have voted on trail issues.

Oh cool, I missed that. I assumed he had been a state legislator or something.

      I doubt I’d vote for a candidate because he/she rides a mtb.

I doubt I’d vote for one based on the RTP vote alone.

But the latter is more important to me that the former.

I agree, there are more important issues that would determine my vote… but i can definitely say being a mountain biker, and their take on trail issues, wouldn’t hurt them at all! 😃

I would if they’d vote to OPEN WILDERNESS TO BICYCLES.

I doubt a democrat could get a head injury mountain biking since they already have brain damage.

This message may be 5 years, late, but here is your chance to help fix the Wilderness Act.
