Ok, It’s the sunniest day we’ve hade in a while and I really need to riding. Anyone have GOOD excuses to give to your employer to get off work early and go riding? I’m not trying to be funny, I really want to go riding.

Why go into work at all? Get up at 8 and promptly call in sick. Grab that kick ass breakfast burrito from the local Mexican place that you never get to because you are always rushing to work. Pack up your gear and bike. On the road by 9ish, burrito in stomach, hey, morning rush hour is over! Get to that trail up the hill where the temp is a little cooler, on the trail by 10:30, where is everyone? Hah, hah. 4 hour epic ride, slip back into town by 4, just before rush hour really rears its ugly head. Unpack the gear and bike, hit the same Mexican place for that bomb dinner you haven’t had in a while, and add a Negra Modelo or three. Just before hitting the sack at 10pm, shoot the boss an email, let him know the day of rest has you back to nearly full strength. Laugh as you close your email.

Very elaborate plan. haha, of course it’s not always this simple, but the basic idea of it should work just fine.

I work the 2nd shift mostly so I have just about every morning/afternoon open and can bike whenever. Only the weather stops me!

Castnpedal, I believe you have done this before. 😆 Hehe – a good plan or is it a memory.

Wish I could ride more and work less……..

      Castnpedal…you’re fired!!! Nice one though.

As an employer, my minions and partners wonder where I am….and with the advent of 3G networks and Smartphones you can still tap out some biz while playing hookie and make them feel like you’re still in the game.
Now with GPS tracking on your iPhone and others etc..turn the freaking thing OFF, and BTW you just can’t bluetooth and multi-task properly out on the trail very well..I’ve tried it!

Just tell your boss you need to take a "well" day than a "sick" day. Hey, what can I say? I have a cool boss.

HA! You don’t live in Atlanta.
Morning rush hour starts at 6:00am and ends at 10:30am.
Evening rush hour starts at 3:00pm and ends at 8:00pm.

[size=75:399j70v7]BTW, lunch rush hour runs 10:30am to 3:00pm.[/size:399j70v7]

So you’re telling us that there is only about 10 non-rush hours? That seems a little exterem, but heck, I don’t live there and I’m sure it happens, all the more reason people should be riding bikes instead! Try telling your boss that, "I want to help reduce rush hour"

Just tell your boss you were in contact with someone that has H1N1 and now you need to be as far away from everyone just in case you have the flu. Part of being far away involves getting there which MTB is the perfect solution.

This way you might be able to get a couple days off work which is even better.

If the boss asks for a doctor’s note, just start sneezing and coughing.

I have a freind that lives in fruita colorado and had this job delivering office equipment and when it was slow they not only told him to take the day off to go riding, they offered to buy him whatever bike he wanted and pay them back at his own discretion. When he left that job,I was almost like wtf are you doing????hahahaha. But then I realized,he grew up around fruita and really wasnt making all that much money and struggling a litlle, but I still wonder what it would have been like to take that job after he left and made freinds with his ex boss’s.
Anyways, back to the drawing board and finding you an excuse to leave work early.hahahahahaha.Have you ever heard of captain morgan??Ride your bike to work, tell your boss your the captain of the local bike advocate coalition and that you have to leave early to meet up with the coalition and go for a group ride that is advocating against global warming and you cannot, will not,no way jose, snowballs chance, miss this ride because it’s bike month and you dont go against your morals in life as a cyclist and it’s not only your right, but your duty as well to support a global cause such as cycling and gloabal warming. 😎 😎 😎

Why tell the boss anything? Well, I guess that works if he/she can’t check in on you too easily. My boss works in another city. The weather in Richmond was awesome today, and I just cut out a little early and hit the trails with a couple of buds.

(okay, okay, I confess, I went in a little early so I wouldn’t feel guilty)

By the way, today was my 3rd or 4th ride on the new GF Tassajaro. It’s really starting to feel good. Can’t wait for the next ride. Keep the excuses coming. I’m taking notes.

    • #78919

come on keep them coming !!!!

    • #78920

my brother has the swine flu and your not feeling your greatest last few days and you spent memorial day with him i think i need to get checked out!

    • #78921

my son got in trouble at school and I have to go pick him up……………..at the end of day 😆 mid week riding is the best 😃

    • #78922

just say that on the way to work the trail looked a bit lonely and you need to go back and see if it feels better.

or if you get to go through a trail to work, just a tweak of, this morning your back wheel was a little rough on the trail and you need to go back and show there were no hard feelings.
