While Funrover is out enjoying Mother Natures white carpet in Colorado, I have been enjoying our lack of it in Virginia. We have had some pretty good riding weather this fall, although it will probably end soon.

Yesterday’s ride was stolen. Was planning on doing chores on a rainy day. Sun came out, 62 degrees F. Chores can wait.

In town ride won out for convenience. Mill Mountain it was

Quite a few ways to the top, but most involve some pavement.

Still even the pavement is not too bad. Much of it is a formal greenway.

Overcast but warm, the view was OK considering.

On the way down on Ridgeline trail it was funny to see color. Forsythia bushes are just not too bright. “Its December, come on out and bloom – winters over”.

      On out Ridgeline

Down Monument Trail –started raining on my descent, but that’s OK

Return on the greenway. Had it to myself once the rain started.

      Merry Christmas to all

Looks like a good time CCR. That Ridgeline trail would be a beautiful site when all the Forsythia is in full "spring" bloom!

Looks/sounds like a great ride. It is crazy how void of snow you are out there! 😮

Defintely is pretty. Pretty much our first color burst of the season.

Funrover, I think you are getting our snow quota out in Colorado. 😃

Glad to see you have your priorities straight!

How many miles of trails are there at Mill Mountain? I’m thinking if, um, [i:1tebsn11]when[/i:1tebsn11] we get back down to Carvins Cove we need to check it out while we are down there.

Not that many maybe 8 miles. But some other non-formal trails and greenway connections I can get 2-3 hours out of it. Good evening ride – If you come up and have a few hours left over in the evening I can give you the tour. Trails connections are confusing and best ridden with a local the first time. Trail quality is simlar to The Cove. Maybe a little more technical.

What is the name of the pyramid like peak off in the distance. I have seen it every time when we drive to New England.

That is McAfee’s Knob. Well worth the hike if you have 3 hours or so extra. Views from there are spectacular, at least by East Coast standards.

      View towards Carvins’s Cove

And view back towards Mill Mountain and the Star overlook where some of the pics for this thread were taken. Mill Mountain is the smaller mountain center right.

It is right on the AT and mountain bking is strictly forbidden.

I-581 / Rt 220 goes right by Mill Mountain. I-81 is about 5 miles west. If you ever have a few exta hours on your way through let me know. Be glad to hook up for a ride, just PM me a day or two prior.
