There was a review just recently on this trail. And I was hoping to try it out this weekend. But on MTB project it says “Dawson Forest is closed to mountain bikers and equestrians the first week in August. Riding is not allowed during firearms deer hunting days and not before 10:00 a.m. during deer archery and spring turkey hunting days or anytime the main gate is closed”
It’s deer hunting season so now it makes me wonder if it is actually open to ride tomorrow or over the weekend? Anyone have any knowledge on this to pass on? It’s greatly appreciated.

The last time I rode up there was 6 years ago, in February. It was definitely hunting season, but maybe not deer firearms season?
I arrived at the trail at around 7:30 and saw a few other cars in the parking area, most of them hunters. I checked the info board to make sure the trails were open (they’re periodically closed for special hunting days) and started down the crunchy, frozen mud on the blue trail.
Looks like this weekend might fall in between firearms dates:

Allatoona Creek is similar and I stay out during hunting season. I have trust issues when I’m on the wrong side of forward firing ordnance.

Thanks goodness it’s not just me. It’s the poachers, or any hunter that’s been drinking, that worry me the most though. They have something to lose by being seen by you. But truthfully, I think if it’s deer hunting season why even risk it? Now if small game is in season I’m pretty confident I won’t been mistaken for a squirrel.

The one good thing about Allatoona is they at LEAST have Turtleback open to ride even during hunting season. You just have to park at the Pitner Dog park.
