How do you determine what the optimum handlebar width is for a rider? The bars on my new bike are 1.25" wider than the set on my Canondale. When I first started riding my new bike I could tel the difference but the next day I was actually sore. I new that I was working new muscles but was my arm positioned correctly. I kept riding and now the bars seem normal and feel good but I still wonder what the correct width would be. Anyone with this info should also put it on treks new how to section but pleasse post here also. That way I will be notified when or if someone replies.

depends on kind of bike and riding; the more travel suspension, especially the front, demands a wider bar than the old-saw "bar as wide as your shoulders". now you need the added leverage of a longer bar. not knowing your bikeset-up, i guess a raiser bar at 24-26". but it depends on bike, body, frame specifics to give much better set-up suggestion.
