guys, i’ve done the walmart bike thing, now i’m ready for a real bike. two shops in my area have the Scott Spark 29 Comp.. approx $1500.. Does anybody have experience or heard anything about this bike? I cant justify spending much more on a bicycle..

That’s a fine bike. The only comment I have is are you sure you really NEED full suspension? For the same cost you can get a hardtail with nicer parts, it’ll weigh less, and need less maintenance. Scott doesn’t have the MSRP of their bikes listed on their site (WHY!!!) but they DO have weights listed for some (which is rare, and very cool). I think the Scale 29 Elite is the same price though, and pretty much all of it’s parts are a step up from the Spark 29 Comp. The nicer fork and wheels are especially nice. I’m guessing the Spark is around 30lbs (no weight listed), where as the Scale is under 26lbs.

If you don’t NEED full suspension i would also recommend going with the Scale. It’s all going to depend on [i:1etu2bmr]where[/i:1etu2bmr] and [i:1etu2bmr]how often[/i:1etu2bmr] you’re riding.

I would like a FS 29er, I ride at Markham park mostly which cant get bumpy, and doing it everyday busts my back. I also would like to be able to take it on road trips and for it to survive real mountain trails..also plan on having for years, i have a 29 hardtail now
it is easy for me to get the spark29 @$1500 because i’m a broke college kid and cant spend much, 😉
