Brown County (IN) Mountain Bike Instructor Certification

      The International Mountain Bike Instructor Certification is coming back to Brown County! The IMIC is the industry leading mountain bike instructor certification program. Courses are taught by two-time World Masters Downhill Champion and IMIC Master Coach, Shaums March. While there are four levels of certification (Ride Leader, Instructor, Coach, Master Coach), only the first two levels will be offered at this event.

      Course: Level I IMIC Ride Leader

      Date: Wednesday, June 6

      Where: Brown County State Park – Rally Camp Recreation Building

      Time: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (approx)

      Cost: $199 + $50 course manual

      This is a one-day course (7-8 hours) designed to train, prepare and certify bike guides to lead mountain bike tours, groups and provide support to IMIC Instructors and Coaches. Working from the IMIC Ride Leader manual, cover topics such as preparing for a ride or tour, pre-ride skills assessment, detection and correction, effective teaching and guidance, and more! Feel more confident about introducing new friends and neighbors to the sport knowing you have been professionally trained as an IMIC certified Ride Leader!

      Course: Level I IMIC Ride Leader

      Date: June 6, 7 and 8

      Where: Brown County State Park – Rally Camp Recreation Building

      Time: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (approx) daily

      Cost: $599 + $100 course manual

      This three-day course (7-8 hours per day) is designed to train, prepare and certify mountain bike coaches to guide mountain bike groups and conduct beginner level coaching. This course offers you the ability to provide individual or group instruction based on international safety standards.

      Day 1: Key Learning – cover such topics as preparing for a ride or tour, pre-ride skills assessment, detection and correction and effective teaching and guidance.

      Day 2: Key Learning and Application – spend the day covering progressive teaching methods and techniques for a variety of IMIC Level II skills such as neutral position and ready state, braking/shifting, rock dodge, switchbacks, climbing/descending bail, front/rear wheel lift and more!

      Day 3: Practical Experience and Course Exam – continue work on progressive teaching methods and effective guiding skills while preparing for the final course exam. Each participant is required to teach one IMIC Level II skill as well as pass a written exam in order to complete the course and become IMIC certified.

      The Level II IMIC Instructor course offers you the ability to provide individual or group instruction based on international safety standards. Offer lessons to your friends and neighbors, volunteer at local clinics and camps and feel confident that you have the knowledge and skills to help grow the sport of mountain biking in your area!
