We are construing a bike wash at a busy bike trail and would like opinions on hanging a bike. Currently we are considering a steel pipe that you hang the bike by its seat post but wondering if it will “swing” to much when being washed. What other ingenious ideas has everyone else come up with?

The steel pipe is a good solution. Bikes will wiggle back and forth a little bit, but it’s totally manageable – especially if you’re just trying to knock of the big stuff at the trailhead before you head home. If you’re really trying to deep clean your bike, it can get annoying.
You could figure out a way to rig up a couple of clamps like these from Park Tool: http://www.parktool.com/product/adjustable-linkage-clamp-100-9c?category=Clamps but that will probably get expensive quick.
