We’re planning to do another blind beer taste test soon, this time focusing on Stouts. What are some great, widely available (or at least, ones we can get in Atlanta) Stouts we should try to include?

Lefthand Nitro Milk Stout, hands-down the best stout I’ve ever had. Lefthand brewery is out of Colorado, but it’s distributed pretty widely. If you can’t get it in ATL let me know and I’ll ship ya a six pack.

Yep, we have Lefthand Nitro Milk Stout. Pretty good stuff!
I have a feeling we’ll end up with a number of milk stouts in our test–that seems to be a pretty popular variety right now. I really dig Terrapin’s Moo Hoo myself–chocolate milk stout FTW!

Right on! Also, if you’re doing “all” types of stouts, would be good to throw in one or two Russian Imperial Stouts, like Old Rasputin: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/112/412/
But if you’re doing a blind taste test, would be really easy to pick those outs VS the milk stouts.

If you can find it, its my favorite beer. Dragon’s Milk

For a non-milk, maybe try Old Rasputin from North Coast Brewing Co. out of California

Was going to suggest Old Rasputin but Greg beat me to it. Others to think about: Green Flash Double Stout, Founder’s Breakfast Stout, Boulevard’s Dark Truth, Avery’s The Czar and Mephistopheles (careful on that last one — great balance but huge alc. content).

Yards Brewing Co. Love Stout- http://www.yardsbrewing.com/ales/love-stout
It’s brewed in Philadelphia, not sure about the availability but I image it can be found somewhere in/around the Atlanta area. If you can find it, it’s definitely worth it. Good stuff.
I can confirm that Dragon’s Milk, mentioned above ^ is also a good choice

Not sure about availability, but I am a huge fan of the Zonker Stout from Snake River Brewery in Jackson Wyoming.
A more mainstream one I have only had once that I thought was pretty good was the Rogue double chocolate stout.

Founder’s Oatmeal Stout, because beer is a viable breakfast food… Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Stout, Great Lakes Brewing Company Blackout Stout and Ohio City Oatmeal Stout.

Oscar Blues Ten Fidy, Schlafly Coffee Stout, Schlafly Irish Extra Stout, Deschutes Obsidian Stout, Tall Grass Buffalo Sweat, Urban Chestnut Brewing Cherry Thale, Pernnial Sump Coffee Stout or Free State Oatmeal Stout. Those are some fine middle America stouts right there.

Although not widely available, some of the best stouts not mentioned, in my opinion, are Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout and Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout. Another great seasonal option that I’ve seen around is Stone Xocoveza, served around room temperature

I have to agree with the left hand milk stout. I have not had Kentucky bourbon barrel stout, I have had the Kentucky bourbon barrel ale and like it. I have tried an oatmeal stout that was good, but no sure it was Founders.
I don’t really drink stout that much, mostly brown ales.
My favorites are Vetrans Scoutdog Brown, and SeaDog blueberry ale, especially when at Ford’s Restaurant, they have it draft and always add a handfull of fresh blueberrys to the glass.
So as far as stouts go I want to try the SeaDog stout.

The best stouts are the ones that almost taste like porters…so yeah a porter test should be in the works! 😉
Founders and Left Hand seem to be the large micro brew standards (and I also prefer the Nitro). I feel like you have to put Guinness in too as it’s the Budweiser of Stouts and gives you a starting point.
I believe you can get Rogue Sriracha Stout 22oz at Costco right now if you’re looking for a random choice.

Sam Smith oatmeal stout. I’ve had almost every stout on this list so far, and they’re all great, but Sam Smith started the stout love for me, it’s one of the originals, and still phenomenal. Red brick also has a really interesting chai stout.

You’re in Atlanta, so try something from Terrapin Beer Co., out of Athens. Moo-Hoo Chocolate Milk Stout & Wake-n-Bake Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout are both good. I saw both at Total Wine in Alpharetta last weekend.

Duck Rabbit Milk Stout, out of North Carolina. Out here in the Stn Mtn/Tucker/Lilburn area I get it at Smokerise Bottle Shop but have also seen it at a local Kroger every now and then. I still love Guinness too, especially when the options are not there.

If you can get it where you are, Epic Big Bad Baptist is an awesome coffee stout.

By far the best stout I’ve had all year.
Lucky bucket’s, certified evil imperial oatmeal stout.
