Bashguard time

  So I’m looking for a bashguard to replace my third ring. The ring it will be protecting is 32 tooth with four bolts. I was wondering, if a get a 32 t bash guard will that even be protective or do I need to go up to the 34 t?
  
  Also very important, how do I ensure that the bolt holes will match up?

  The ’32t’ listing of the bashguard is usually the size of the chainring it will protect.

  Bashguards typically come in 2 main sizes. 32-36 tooth and 36-40 tooth. Pretty much any modern quality crank arm uses the 4 bolt pattern. Take a look at e*13 and MRP for great bashguards.
  
  This is what the 4 bolt standard looks like nowadays.
  
  Same crank but with the bash guard installed instead of chainguide.

  Thanks! I loved having the bashguard but kept on dropping my chain. So I got a chainguide and bash combo and lost my 22 tooth. It was worth it!

  Yes, a 32 bashguard will fit perfectly with your 32T chainwheel (ring). The # size of the bashguard is the size chainwheel compatible with that bashguard. You can also use a 34/36 bashguard with a 32T as well. That way if you choose to step up to a 34T or 36T, you will have a bashguard to accommodate this move. You can also fly with a taco guard as well if not a full bashguard ring. Good luck bro!

  If you don’t know the specs for your chainwheel/Ring then count the teeth on it. The 32T, 34/36 above are referring to the number of teeth on the chainwheel.
