Well, my personal favorite is when I was changing a tube, I had three deer pass by me. And by pass by me I mean I could have touched one if I had been paying attention. Just makes you sit back and smile.

I’m pretty sure I had a spiritual awakening on a ride this past summer. I’m a very spiritual (not necessarily religious) guy who, like most people of certain faiths, sometimes feel like the Big Guy may or may not be watching over me. Sometimes you need something to happen to give you that "spiritual connection" again.

No particular reason why it happened this summer on a ride in New Hampshire, but it sure did. 😀

During my first race (particularly bad one at that) I had to drop out because of asthma. Before I gave up I took a break to use my inhaler. Out of nowhere I heard an almost angelic female voice call out "You can do it!" I can still hear her voice and would very much like to meet her and thank her for lifting my spirits.

I know this is not what you’re talking about but here goes. I’m inspired everytime I clean a hard climb and my heart doesn’t explode inside my rib cage. Just kidding. I am inspired every ride about how wonderful the woods are. In my area there are a bunch of deer. It is cool to watch them glide through the woods and try to keep one in site when they get spooked. If I didn’t know better I would say the can disappear instantly. The people that hunt deer are hunters or snipers depending on their methods. Ever had a squirrel chew you out? That’s inspirational. 😄 Later,

When my legs got a second wind at the 40 mile mark last week. They felt brand new. First time that ever happened. 😎

Seeing anyone over 60 years young ripping a trail. also, when you see a rider clean a section of trail you thought was impossible, pretty much. then there’s the beauty of every trail and type of landscape I have rolled . Oh, I can’t forget the many times I was passed and harshly DROPPED, by great female riders. 😳

I posted this on another site a few years back:

This past summer I had an experience that I would like to share. I have been an avid outdoor person my whole life. There are few things that I enjoy more than mt. biking, skiing, hiking or kayaking. I find it as a retreat from daily stress, re-charge my soul and re-connect to God. I have been caught many times outside in bad weather and have actually gone out when I know the weather will show its ugly head. Yes I have found snowshoeing up a mountain when it is -20 degrees an enjoyable experience.

Now back to the story, I was having a bad day (actually a few bad weeks) and my wife told me to get out and do something. So I loaded up my mt. bike in the 90 degree day and headed to a local trail. I biked about 7 miles and was not into it at all. Sweaty, muddy and just about whipped. I was at the half way point and all of the sudden the skies became very dark, wind was picking up, lightning was flashing and at times striking all about. And boy did it start to pour. For the first time in years I was a little nervous about being in the woods.

I started heading back as fast as I could and hoping a branch or tree didn’t come crashing down on me. Then something amazing. My fear vanished, I knew I was safe. God was with me, watching me, protecting a member of his flock. The noise of trees and thunder crashing were replaced with "Hallelujah! Grace Like Rain Falls Down on Me! Hallelujah! All My Stains are Washed Away!" It was just amazing how God reminded me how powerful He is and how much He Loves me. I did not want it to stop.

I was pedalling as fast as I could, looking, shouting, praising the Lord. I could feel the rain, mud, sweat dripping down my face. However I also know mixed in were now tears of joy for our awesome God was looking after me.

It poured, thundered, trees came crashing down the whole time back and God had his hand covering me, protecting me along the way. As soon as I got back to the car it litterally stopped raining and within 5 minutes the sun was out in its full glory. I praise and thank God for His grace and love he showed me that day. "and Grace My Fears Relieved"
