you are so lucky. Im about 5 hours from Asheville. When I had my full suspension, asheville, greeneville, and Boone were the places we would ride. We would camp all weekend and then ride during the day. I was in high school/college so I dont remember trail names……..did a lot of drugs back then too. ………….great effin memories bro, so jealous.

Chili-you guys decided on moving to Asheville – or still contemplating? Best of luck either way. Moving, no matter how far – well it sucks.

Thanks brother! Yeah, I am soooo stoked over the DH parks in the Boone area and just 2hrs away is Windrock in TN. That place is killer riding! Another great thing is Pisgah and Dupont in the area as well for some AM riding scene. I also like the fact of Paris Mountain and Clemson around Greenville, SC just an hour drive south of Asheville. Damn am I stoked! Look forward to some camping and hiking as well, but the river rafting sounds awesome as well, though I have never did anything like that. The greatest part of it all is just living in the mountains again and my son having super great opportunities to expand his riding future and skills to a much greater level. I would like to get him started on the DH grom racing scene once we get established up there. Maybe once we get up there we could hook up and get some shredding sessions in. 😄[/quote:16izju91]

hells yeah! Im not huge into DH but Ive been known to hit drops of 2′-4′ on my hardtail. Maybe I will have my new bike then too!

North Augusta, SC is 3 hours away from riding in Pisgah NF around Brevard, Hendersonville.

Did it last weekend. Have done it alot. 3 hours to singletrack. Asheville proper is another 30 minutes up the road. But the best riding is 3 hours from North Augusta.

I was reading on the sorba site about it, I want to scope it out for sure but I want to upgrade my front fork and brakes first, hoping to do both next month.

Are there videos up of the Pisgah trail? Whenever I hear technical I get a little worried but I try not to hike and bike at all. Most technical stuff, for me, isnt that technical, but my equipment doesnt help much lol.

Pisgah is a NF with 400ish miles of trails open to bikes in it.

Best riding east of the Mississippi, hands down, IMHO.

I am sure there are videos. Some trail names to look for video of are Squirrel Gap, Laurel Mtn, Pilot Rock for starters. These three are stellar, but many others are too.

Last time I had a hardtail up there, I felt like I had a knife at a gunfight. But that said, I know people who ride fully rigid in Pisgah. I think they are a little crazy.

Pisgah is not for everyone. If Modoc gives you any trouble, Pisgah is completely out the league of Modoc in terms of elevation gain, loss and the chunkyness in which you experience this elevation change.

I havent rode modoc yet but Im hoping to catch the next "explore the trail" out there, I will decide then on whether to tackle Pisgah lol. As for most riders in CSRA, FATS has me spoiled. 😆

Riding FATS alot shaved off a ton of my technical skills.

Pisgah handed it to me after riding FATS for so long. I knew I had to get back out to some trails with some technical stuff on them. Basically FATS is great fun, and I spent alot of time advocating for it, raising the money to pay for it, building it and riding it. But I am ready to get back to the other trails in the area. Working Wine Creek on Saturday and hope to get it back open so we can have something to ride that is kinda primitive and technical.

Worst thing about FATS is the almost complete abandonment of the other trails further up in the forest. They are more primitive and technical. We have an entire group of riders in the area who only ride FATS and hate all the other trails.

Been to Bent Creek and thoroughly enjoyed it. Im thinking of hitting Dupont next (Coming from Boone) makes a sort of long day trip, But would be nice to try some new trails.

Was just up near Asheville, rode Sugar Mountain Northeast of there in Boone. Also hit up some Pisgah singletrack in Brevard, and it was no joke! I loved those nasty, nasty descents!! 😃 The climbs were killer though.

But as per chili’s original question, does anyone know if the lift-served riding in the city Asheville is still open? I’ve heard about it from various people, but have heard on here that its been shut down. Does anyone have more info?

It is some serious awesome riding in that area by far! I am getting a serious itch to get the hell out of FL and make my way up there. Anyways, from what I understand from talking to fellow riders here and over on RideMonkey & PinkBike from that area, the owner of 26 is involved with Beech now and that 26 has been closed permanently. Broke my heart to hear that. 😢

BTW, how the hell did you like climbing on that burly beast? Got legs like pistons now, hey? 😆[/quote:3qgs7k3g]

Rode my trail bike in Pisgah and rode the lifts with the DH rig. BUT got my derailleur hanger torn in half in pisgah, so all of the rides I’ve done this week have been on the burly Taka, and there’s not really any good shuttles in our area. Every good downhill requires some looong uphill. Its a workout, haha!
