After discovering the joy of a Fox fork after several years of not riding, and missing the technological advances of the last few years, I have decided to build up my first full-sus bike here in Tucson AZ. I have 2 goals: to build it sub 25lbs, and less than $2500. Not sure how I got to those figures, but it makes it more interesting! I also wanted something that will hold up in the rocky trails round here, and that will not flat on me all the time like my HT does running tubes in the desert. I have bought a Salsa El Kaboing frame for a good price, some Crossmax STs with Mountain King 2.4 tires, which I will run with Stans, and a bunch of other good stuff which I have spent hours sourcing from various places on the net. My favorite buy was a pair of brand new Elixir CR Mag brakes with all the fittings for around 200 bucks. I am just waiting for the rest of the bits to arrive, still need to find a couple of things, but if manufacturers’ weights are accurate, I am very close to the 25lb mark, maybe even a shade under. $ 2500 bucks is also looking good, so hopefully I will make my goals… then I just gotta ride it!!!

Sounds like a sweet bike. Of course, you know what they say. Without pics it doesn’t exist.

Tubeless is the answer to flats by the way. You’ll love it.

the frame you picked is a nice one, but i dont see you getting the bike at or below 25lbs, i see that bike coming in more around 27lbs. but maybe if your running a small frame that goal might be feasible, anyways, pics when your done would be great with a scale shot to see if you proved me wrong and got it to weigh 25lbs or less, but either way have fun with your new bike. also, manufactures weights are not always accurate and can be off a bit, usually +/- 15 grams

You know, I am also sceptical at getting it around 25lbs, at least not without spending a buttload of money, and that is not what I am wanting… right now, using the manufacturer weights, I am at 11,000 g, 3/4 of a pound to go. That is with pedals. I am still waiting for some bits to get here, so will weigh in when complete and see how close I am. If I am over somewhat, big deal, it will be a great price for a great lightweight FS rig. I will enjoy the bejeesus out of it whatever.

Just looking here it may be confusing; I am at 11,000 g with all the parts added, even tho I might not have them. If the manufacturers weights are even close, then I should not be far off…

I have a giant anthem x1 frame I got for cheap! And I have a shimano SLX 22-36-bashgaurd, slx shifters, slx 11-34 cassette, xtr shadow rear derailleur. BB7 brakes with 185 front 160 rear. Fox f100 fork, monkey lite bars, f-23rp rear shock. Odi intense lock on grips, Tioga spyder saddle. Mavic 717 wheeled laced to wtb hubs. I’m about to get a pair of WTB wolverine tires. It weighs in at around 27ish pounds.

Also, I work in a bike shop so my bike has only cost me around $900. It would cost an average Joe about $3500
