What model and size tire do you currently have installed and how much of a "clearance issue" are you having? (Constant rubbing, occasional rubbing, only rubs when clogged with mud?)

its like every now and then and now i got 2.0 kenda nevegal tires

Every now and then…like totally random if it will rub or not? Or every now and then… like at the same spot on the rim while the wheel turns? I guess the question is, what do you have to do to the bike (or on the bike) to make the noise?

If it happens at a specific spot on the rim each time your wheel turns, it may be a tire that isn’t seated well or a even bent rim. Have you checked to make sure the rim is true? If not, fix it. If it is, make sure your tire isn’t simply off center at one point on the rim because the beads haven’t seated properly. If you find this to be the case, try putting a higher psi into your tire and see if that helps it seat properly. Sometimes I have to fill tires up to 80psi to get them to seat. Once they are seated you can simply let the pressure off until they are at a good spot for you.

If it is just totally random when it rubs, I would check to make sure your wheel is in the rear drop out correctly. Sometimes you think you’ve got everything right but it’s a bit off center and that can affect whether or not your rear tire rubs against the chainstay. Make sure it’s torqued correctly to prevent it from moving around on you when you hit a rock or a root.

You can always get a smaller width tire but a 2.0 should fit most any mountain bike. Most 29ers don’t have the same large tire clearance that your normal 26 inch bikes typically enjoy, but a 2.0 tire shouldn’t be an issue.

Agreed, these days it’s tough to even find tires narrower than 2.0, even on XC and 29er bikes. Maybe it’s not actually a 29er frame 😕

If it is, running through GG’s checklist should clear up the issue…

its when i do sharp turns my lbs said its mostly because my rims are very flexable i think ill just try getting the wheels tured and go from there thanks.

you should also have them check your hub and make sure its adjusted right cause a loose hub could also cause the same thing to happen, alot of people over look the hub and make the mistake of thinking its the rim when its actually the hub causing the flexing problem.

Hmm, turning shouldn’t really affect the rear tire that much. Hopefully truing the back wheel will fix you up. If the rim is that flexy you may also have very low tension on your spokes. Bringing the tension back into range should help your wheel performance as well. Good luck.

I was thinking the same thing earlier and forgot to add it to the list.

Normally you can feel hub movement by simply pressing on sides of the wheel. Give it a quick test to rule it out.

Just adding my two cents but I have noticed that Kenda make a tire that is very true running on a rim. To ensure that the tire is beaded properly one could mix dish soap and water together and slather it on either side of the beads and then re-inflate the tires. IF that is not the issue. I would like GG was saying check firstly the hub bearings to make sure they have not come loose. A 29er wheel places more stress at the bearings when cornering. IF they are a bit loose have them tighten again properly so that there is no lateral play. Then I would check spoke tension, maybe add a bit there…

No one else has asked this yet but, what bike do you have? What rim and hub?

I agree, a 2.0 should never rub. Something aint right.

When I first got my 29er, the hub got loose after only a month of riding, causing a slight rubbing on the frame. That sounds like the most likely scenario to me.
