I am headed to Santiago, Chile in a few weeks and have 2-3 days to ride. Last time I was there I did a half-day tour on the trails in Cerro San Cristobal park in the city. This time I would like to get out into the surrounding hills on some of the bigger rides. But I don’t have much to go on. Which trails should I ride? Do I need a guide? Last time I did hook up with a local guide, but he rented me a pretty dodgy bike.

I’m very comfortable with backcountry travel and navigation, but thinking it would be a good idea to not go alone in the bigger mountains on all-day rides in unfamiliar territory.  I’m not used to long alpine climbs, though I’m not opposed to putting in the uphill time. I don’t go for big hits and gap jumps, but would enjoy some trails with optional advanced lines. I see there is a bike park somewhere near the city with all levels of stunts, but don’t have much detail on logistics. I am used to rocky,  techy east coast riding, so the wide open trails and higher speeds will be novel for me, at least from what I see in pics of riding in the Santiago region.

Do you have any recommendations for a competent bike shop that could outfit me with a rental (29r trail or enduro rig would be ideal) and point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!
