I am going to be riding the 12 hours of Tsali Race on May 19. At least one lap is going to be at night. I have been riding since 2005 but never rode a night. I picked up a nice Cygolite Expellion 410 and it works great. When I first got the light I rode a few times at night and thought no big deal…that was when it was much cooler…before the bugs.
In the day of course I wear glasses. I have a pair of sunglasses and lightly tinted glasses. Last night i went out with no glasses and every bug in Western NC were in my path and ended up in my eyes. I tried on the glasses with a lesser tint but they were still a bit to dark.
Question: What do you guys (gals) wear for night riding for eye protection? Untinted safety glasses came to mind but I just want some thoughts. Thanks.

That’s exactly what I use. In fact, I’m still using the un-tinted glasses on my after work rides now because it dark in the woods by the time we’re finishing up. We don’t need lights, but with sunglasses it’s hard to see.

I’ve also used untinted safety glasses. They are inexpensive so don’t have to worry about loosing them. Found some stylish single-lens glasses at Huck and Roll. Also most multi-lens glasses come with clear lenses.

These work great and they’re like $6
http://www.singletracks.com/mtbreviews/ … /3310.htmlAlso, check the rules of your race. Some race venues are now requiring two lights, as a fail safe.

+1 on clear lenses. I use them all the time day or night. The ones I bought came with grey and orange tinted lenses, but I don’t use them.

I recently got some of the multi-lens ones and they came with clear lenses. Watch for an upcoming review on the blog.
But like I said, prior to these I used the Home Depot safety glasses I linked above and they work great. My only beef with them is that on a really slow climb or if you stop the fog up pretty badly. They also don;t always stay put as well as purpose-made cycling glasses.
Still, for $6, they are a great solution.
