Trail Description
About this trail
The Wildcat Mountain Bike Trail is purportedly the best spot to ride mountain bikes in Washburn County. This is really the only true singletrack trail of any substantial size in the county. With recent additions, it totals about 19 miles in length of rolling trails. However, not all 19 miles is actual singletrack: there's a combination of dirt roads and ATV doubletrack here that's required to connect all of the pieces of singletrack together.

Most of the trails are rake-and-ride, which obviously doesn't create high-quality singletrack, especially with the low amount of traffic that this trail receives. That said, some of the older sections of trail that have been ridden in more have developed their own sort of flow, but don't expect to be whipping through these trails the way you might at the nearby CAMBA trail system.

Review: A mix of logging, atv and single track trails. Signage is decent, especially on the single track but can be a bit confusing because of so many trails. Single track is bit bumpy at times, just because is doesn't get enough use. Maintenance seems good, someone has been mowing to keep the weeds down. There are some very nice sections that are very pretty along a couple small lakes. Trails are not overly technical but require some effort to plow through and some of the climbs are on the steep side. I wouldn't take newbies here to ride.

Review: I love this place! Only rode it once and in winter but it is beautifully groomed for fat biking and is perfect to enjoy the quiet of the woods without worrying about getting smacked up.
Flowing and fully rideable this trail is an unknown gem very close to the well know CAMBA system.

Review: Great job grooming your trails. We stopped today on our way home and what a great time! Can't wait to be back next summer.

Review: I sort of just wanted to write to save anyone the same fate. My bf and I decided to give this a shot and it was the trail from hell. Not maintained at all, and we were covered in bug spray but I have never experienced misquitos like that in my life. We couldn't rest because the bugs chewed us from head to foot, which made battling through the overgrown trail twice as exhausting. I actually felt a little afraid because there was no way to rest and I had to keep pushing well past my comfort zone to get out of there. Fallen logs etc. across the trail gave the misquotos time to lay into us. It was a really awful experience, suggest look at cambatrails.org for the nicer trail system in that area. An hour or so further northeast, but this trail was really awful.

Review: Check out my description above for deers on the trail. But as for analysis, in addition to the rather poor trail building techniques (rake and ride, fall line trail, poor flow in places), connecting all of the singletrack bits together using the gravel roads and ATV trails is pretty difficult. Despite signs at many of the junctions and printed trail maps at the trailhead, I still took a wrong turn at least once and had to backtrack a couple of miles.

All that said, there's a lot of riding to be done here, and you can get in a solid workout. I was waffling back and forth between two and three stars, but considering the lack of other mountain biking opportunities close by (although CAMBA isn't too far in the grand scheme of things), I decided to round up to a three-star rating. But put this trail in Colorado? 2 stars would be generous.
