Trail Description
About this trail
The Larry and Rona Dykes trail is a 3.5-4 mile multi-use walking/jogging/biking trail which encircles the perimeter of the park. The two-way trail varies from single path in the open fields to doubletrack through the woods. There are a few options from the main trail which hook back up to the main. Dothan has pretty slim-pickins as far as bike trails, this trail would be good for just straight-out big ring laps for building stamina or for new riders just getting the feel for riding on dirt. While you can really cruise on this trail since it's hard-packed and flat, beware of the walkers and joggers out there. There is also a BMX track at the park, but it is only open for practice or races: http://www.wiregrassbmx.com/ .

Review: The park is great for our area as it has alittle bit of everything for kids, parents, families, etc. The downside is the trail for mountain biking. Considering over half the trail is pavement it does offer alot in the way of wooded trails. As well there are sections of the trail where bikers and walkers/ runners share the path and that can be a bit treacherous to not run into someone.

Review: The walking path in 3.3 miles long.
Lots of wash out on path.
Could used some up date.
Walking time is about 1 hour or less.

Review: This is not a "real" mountain bike trail. Instead, it is a paved bike path in a park. But, it works well for me if I am trying to do some riding in a safe environment. The path is only 3.2 miles long, so I tend to ride around and around four or five times to get some mileage. There are three very small hills that should pose no big challenge. The trail winds around ball fields and through some wooded areas and it merges briefly with a walking/jogging path briefly here and there. if you are looking for a challenge and/or dirt, then this is not the place for you. But if you want a safe place to get in some miles or maybe ride with your kids, this is a great place. The Troy University MTB trails are only a couple miles away and it would be pretty easy to ride both trails in one morning without having to do a lot of driving.

Review: The city of Dothan has spent a lot of money on the Westgate trail. They have seperated the runners and cyclists trails for the most part. The bike trail is now a bike path that has been 85 to 90% paved. The only unpaved portions are where the bike and running trails merge in a few areas. As for MTB, not worth your time. If you want to get out and do some spinning without the worry of traffic, this trail is for you. It is about 3.25 miles in length, some small rolling hills, and about1/2 the trail is shaded. Nice bike path! Not a good MTB trail.

Review: Perfect trail for the beginner getting a feel for a new bike on dirt. Not very technical at all. Look out for runners and walkers. Start out here and then go to Troy State University Trail for more technical ride.
