Trail Description
About this trail
In the 1930's Walnut Mountain was considered a winter sports mecca. Long gone are the tow
ropes, wood skis and the hot cocoa. With the work of a few dedicated individuals, Walnut
Mountain is now a public park consisting of 265 acres of hiking and biking trails. The park also
features picnic areas, a softball field, soccer field and a playground. The NYSMTB Series has been
holding the Walnut Mtn Classic here for a few years with growing success. The course utilizes the
entire mountain; intermediate single track, fire roads and really tough climbs - more than 400
feet of elevation. There are nice views from the south side of the mountain and always a good
opportunity to spot wildlife. At the summit, look out for the stone fireplace to the old hotel - really
cool. Check out www.libertybiketrail.org for general information about the area and to view the
race course, go to: http://www.libertybiketrail.org/downloads/WC-Map.jpg

Open daily May 1-Sept 30, 8 am-dusk. Stay away from the park during hunting season!

Review: A great place to ride and well worth the trip if you like cross country nice and f lowly trails. The trails are well marked, however what makes this place great is that there is nobody else on the trails.

Review: I rode here in anticipation of an upcoming Enduro race. Race has been cancelled but I must say I enjoyed my ride here. Yellow Brick Road (trail 1)to the top(ish) good climb not too difficult with some coasting sections. Trail 2 to the bottom nice flowing ride to the bottom. Fire roads back to the ttippy top. Nice trails up there took trail 3 to trail 4 on the way down, wavy singletrack lots of fun. I prefer this to Lippman doesn't seem as cramped.

Review: I can ride but wouldn't say I'm experienced by any means. The ride to the top takes some effort to get up but the ride down is well worth it. Tracks have great flow and very well maintained. Love this little mountain for trail running and used it to train for the Ultra Beast spartan race.

Review: Really well maintained and great use of this little hill. Had a blast and recommend it for a couple hours to get your singletrack fix. Easy climbs and fun little descents with roots, tight tree gaps, a couple wee bridges and even two or three nice (little) berms! Road really well after a rainy day yesterday thanks to gravel, brdiges and good maintenance.

Review: Much improved over the last couple years thanks to local bike clubs. Previously utilized for mountain bike races, most trails are fairly easy, while some still provide enough technicality to require the need for experience. Plenty of climbing however and therefore plenty to descend down as well. All in all a decent place to mountain bike although the park itself is a relatively small venue. Thanks to the efforts of local bike clubs and their volunteers, this little known town park which is primarily regularly used by locals to walk their dogs is now a respectable mountain biking destination. The best feature is the fact that it really is a small mountain for Mountain Biking. The gates to the athletic fields are closed between November and April however you can still access the trails. There is no hunting in the town park at anytime.
