Trail Description
About this trail
This moutain bike park will keep you amused for perhaps an hour or so - it's quite small. From the trailhead, where there is a map board, you will ride about 15 minutes up the four wheel drive access road to the 100 acre wood area. Here there are picnic tables, a trail map board, a short kids loop, a pump track and a very short jump track that has one reasonable table top.

The main trail is the intermediate Outback Loop which features lots of nice curvy berms. There are a couple of short extensions off the Outback loop and two expert trails that take different routes back down to highway 25. These two don't go back to the trailhead. All the trails get slushy in places after rain.

This little bike park is visitor friendly with good signs. The trails are one way and there are warnings before any surprises! You can pick up a map of the trails in Thames at the visitors centre, the bike shop or Stirling Sports.

Review: Nice small mtb track with spectacular views over Thames. You park at the top.of moanatairi rd then it's stright into uphill along the access road for several minutes but will make you puff hard. The outback loop is 1.8km singlet rack (one way) with a handful of advanced/expert tracks leading off the main'll keep riding up the hill along the access rd a few times to try each of the trails leading off the outback loop.the main loop trail is in reasonable condition with some rain damage rutting out the trails in places. This will need some repairs soon or the trail will degrade further. The st John's expert trail has more water damage but is still fun and testing. There is so much more scope that could be done developing further tracks given manpower and effort. It's a shame more people don't use this track and give back to the club and trails.

Review: The Thames mountain bike club members obviously like groovy berms and put lots into this little network. There's plenty of potential for future development in this area. Unlike most North Island bike parks, this one is not in a commercial pine forest.
