What makes this track great is the history and the views. It takes you through five 300' long 25' wide railroad tunnels that were created for the construction of Hover Dam back in 1931. This is a very easy ride with some spectacular views of Lake Mead. The track takes you all the way to Hover Dam. The final leg bikes are not permitted but there is a place where you can lock up your bikes and walk down to the Dam.
Review: As of May 9th 2012, the railroad tunnel trail was open and not busy. There were a couple of hikers and cyclist using the trail but tourist season has not set in yet. There were great views of the Lake, the railroad tunnels were amazing and Clark County Nevada has done tons of upkeep to this trail in regards to information signs everywhere. I was not sure if I was pedaling uphill or if the terain was playing an optical illusion but the trail seemed downhill both ways. This trail will lose interest to guys that want technical switch backs and the need for single track. I was disappointed in the gravel surface but I assume the surfacing is best for the hickers. This trail was great for me to ops check my MTB after the long winter storage. Next trail will be Blue Diamond!
Review: Knowing a little about the history of the dam & the lake helps to make this one a bit more fun. Great for beginners or just anyone just visiting the area to sightsee. The trail is routed around some new construction towards the end of it as they are currently building the next chapter of history in the form of a bypass bridge that is pretty impressive to see from the viewing area at the trails end.
