Mountain Biking Powderface/prairie Link

*****   Add a review
#29 of 219 mountain bike trails in Alberta
#5,000 in the world

I'd rate this a "blue square" trail. It's your standard multi-use trail: not a downhill trail,
but more technical than a groomed cross-country race course. That being said, I've seen
it ridden on everything from hardtails to 6" travel all-mountain rigs. There's quite a bit of
climbing in the first half of the trail, but paying this price up front buys you a back half full
of flowy singletrack.

Keep an eye out for the Prairie Link junction just before the 2-mile mark. There will be a
sign here with the trail forking to the right, or continuing on. You'll want to take the fork
to the right. Continuing ahead will take you on a much longer loop - a trail called
Powderface Trail.

At roughly the 3.5-mile mark, you'll encounter another similar junction. Take
the trail to the right again, as this will loop you back to the parking area.

The other thing to watch for is the warning sign towards the end of the trail, after the
last big climb along the cliff face. The sign warns you off a very technical drop-off ahead.
Less experienced riders will probably want to dismount and walk this section.

The last thing to note is that the trail doesn't dump you out exactly at the parking lot
where you started - it will dump you onto the Hwy a couple hundred meters East of the
parking lot. Just take a right when you hit the hwy and you'll see the parking lot ahead
of you.

Trail conditions are generally dry, with a couple of muddy spots.

Getting there
From the town of Bragg Creek, head South along Hwy 22. Turn Right
(West) on Hwy 66. Follow Hwy 66 for just under 12 miles (just over 19km)
to the Powderface parking area. Park here - the trail begins at the far end
of the parking lot.

*Note. If you're riding the trail between Dec 1st and May 15th, Hwy 66 will
be closed West of Elbow Falls. If the Hwy is closed, simply park at the gate
and ride to the trailhead from there - it's only a few hundred metres.
