Mountain Biking Peaking Ridge

After riding up the forestry roads to the Fringed Hill radio masts you'll start riding hiking trails through native forest. For bikers they are intensely technical with roots, drop-offs, sharp corners, narrow gaps and unrideable sections.
Ride-push along the ridge for two kilometers where you'll see two signs pointing to the left; an old one saying Peaking Ridge and a new one saying Sunshine Ridge. You'll ride down both ridges; Sunshine first, then Peaking.
Eventually, you'll come out on the Dun Mountain Trail which you'll follow back down to Maitai Valley.
Best not to go by yourself or without a topo map, food, water and your cell phone!

From downtown Nelson, take Maitai Valley Road to the car park beside the camp ground. Ride up Groom Road to Tantragee Saddle and follow Fringed Hill Road to the radio masts at the top. You'll find a hiking track behind the highest mast.
