Trail Description
About this trail
This trail is in no way affiliated with Sugarcamp Mountain Trails despite what the pictures suggest. Search for Sugarcamp Mountain Trails for info on those trails.

This is a gravel road with a few ups and downs and some nice views of the lake. It gets pretty isolated, so it is not recommended to ride this trail alone.

Review: Directions listed for trail are completely wrong, trail is not on long br. Rd Jenny Wiley lodge 419 Jenny Wiley drive Prestonsburg, ky 41653 is correct address for starting point When you're in lodge parking lot just keep on black top rd that goes up hill by lodge, you will pass by lodge rental cabins then come to a gate after approx half mile or so, up and over and follow rd, turns to gravel in another half mile or so.. There are no turns just follow road you're there when you reach cabins by waters edge and shelter by lake. (Gd time for a dip). Be cautious, there is a guide wire across rd just after you see 1st cabin and odd fellows sign it is noticeable, but just so you know it is there!! There is wide open area to left of cable to easily pass through, then one more hill and you're there! Trail is approx 9.2 miles out and back to starting point from lodge (total ride) so 4.1 each way, it is a great ride, the terrain is gravel and in fairly good shape (rd is maintained) it is access rd for cabins owned by piarist mission, formerly odd fellows cabins! Trail has 3 big climbs, and the best part is 3 fairly fast downhills then a mixture of flow here and there! Moving time for me averages around 1.3 hours I usually give myself 2 hours if I plan on stopping for rest! It's a great ride, trees provide plenty of shade so it's a great summer ride! After ride Deweys bar at Jenny Wiley lodge is a great place for gd food and ice cold draft!!!

Review: The problem with Eastern Ky is they want to spend money on trails for walking but will not allow bikers. The tourism offices get tons of calls daily about bike trails and still none!

Review: There are tons of trails in eastern Ky. Thats the problem with you weterners. You want big signs and someone to hold your hand and show you where everything is. I've found trails upon trails in eastern ky. You just need to ask the people with dirt bikes and four wheelers. Some of the trails are very similar to bike trails.

Similar Trail: Go off the ussual big sign trails and go for the alternatives.

Review: What is the deal with East KY? All those damned mountains out there and the best they can do is offer a gravel road? I visit my mother-in-law out there often and would love to take my bike and ride while we're there, but I can never find a decent bike trail. All this crying about a depressed economy in the mountains and they completely ignore the resource of decent trails in all those hills in their back yard. People would travels hundreds of miles to stay in their hotels and eat at their restaurants if they'd build us some trails out there.

Review: I agree with Rudyk's commentary 100%. I've ridden this trail and it's not much to speak of. There is way more potential out there in E. KY than this dumb gravel road. There is a 3 mile loop and and a 1 mile loop near the lake that Jenny Wiley State Park calls their MTB trails. I've ridden them and they would actually be quite good if they were 10X longer. I would not recommend driving all the way out there to ride 4 miles of trail - and oh yea, that lame gravel road!
