This trail was really a pleasant surprise. I only stopped here because I had my 7yr old son with me. I fully expected nothing special with boring scenery. What I got was a unique experience. Since the trail is an old railroad bed, it's rather wide and has a very moderate grade. However, there's a few places where the railroad crossed ravines on trestles. The trestles are now gone, so you have to drop in and climb out of the ravines, so there's a small technical fix. The scenery isn't alpine like nearby rides at higher elevations, but it's really cool cruising through all the rock formations that were cut through for the railroad. Finally, the season here is much longer than in the surrounding alpine areas. It's worth a stop, especially of other options are snowed in.
Monarch Crest for an epic thrill
