Mountain Biking Mangamahoe Mountain Bike Park

***   Add a review
#111 of 387 mountain bike trails in New Zealand
#7,468 in the world

Collection of 9 mtb tracks with steep climbs and downhill runs next to Lake MangaBe sure you get the map of the park from the New Plymouth Mountain Bike Club website - www.npmtb.co.nz - before heading out. Finding the good singletrack can be confusing first time out.

There is one main forestry road that goes roughly north-south through the park. Lake Mangmahoe is on the left; most of the mountain bike trails are on the right.

The trails vary a lot but in general they are fairly old-school. That means that they meander through the forest without a lot of fun stuff like jumps, berms, and so on. But some of the best trails which do include features expected in a modern bike park hang off the old forestry road called Ridge Track. They include Let it Roll, AnticlimAX, Mandatory Powerplay, Track the Ripper and Stumpy's Mayhem which ends up near the park entrance.
mahoe.

Additional info 7/10/23: An extensive trail network that has been developed by the New Plymouth Mountain Bike Club (www.npmtb.co.nz) in the council-owned forest on the eastern side of Lake Mangamahoe. Its clay-based soil so best ridden in the dry. There are plenty of more challenging grade 4's, 5's and even 6's as well as a good number of grade 3 XC tracks. For jumps and bumps try Anti-Climbax, Mandatory Power Play, Stumpies Mayhem & BB Sizzler. For flow tracks, there's Sweet Spot, Cashflow & Cashflow Extention and Highway to Hell. For more techy downhill try Slam City, No2 DH, Buzzcut, Piggy Bank, Debt Collector. And for big air there is Hendrix. Good swimming holes in the adjacent river too and views of the lake and mountain, dog-friendly and just great place to visit and chill.

Getting there
Head south out of New Plymouth on highway 3. Don't take the Lake Mangamahoe turnoff; the one you want is Plantation Road just a little further on on your left, just 11km from New Plymouth. There is lots of parking about 100 metres along Plantation Road where you'll see the park gate and squeeze pipes.
