Trail Description
About this trail
Just start out going down the trailhead (you will notice the "no bicycles" part of the sign has been
painted over, bikes ARE now allowed on this trail). Be wary of hikers and their dogs, especially
on weekends. This is a fun, pretty easy downhill that goes right by Mammoth Rock. Be careful
while looking out at the view, however, or you may find yourself going off the edge of the trail,
which can be pretty narrow at parts. The bottom of the trail gets a bit sandy. At the end of the
trail, you can choose to go left or continue straight. Go left for a shortcut back to Old Mammoth
Road (it will drop you off in an empty dirt parking lot, just get on the road and go left--you will hit
Old Mammoth Road in about a minute). If you go straight, you will come out nearer the
Motocross track, from there go left on the road and you will shortly get back to Old Mammoth
Road.

Then, go to Salsas Taqueria on the corner of Old Mammoth Road and Cheateau Road for a
reasonably priced Mexican lunch!

Review: We started on Sherwin side which mostly uphill in that direction. You'll probably will want to start on the lake merry road side. Everything was super sandy (think beach sand), it was not very interesting in terms of riding but if you like good views that's the only thing redeeming about this trail.

Review: Just like the others have said...while it isn't a long trail, it's definitely a fun ride and worth making the effort to get up there. It's about a 2 mile ride up from town on Old Mammoth Road but pretty much all DH once you get on the dirt. I will say it needs some rain badly once you get down in the valley. Some of the corners had 4-6" of sand/DG.

Review: The Mammoth Rock trail is short, 2.8 miles long but what it lacks in length it more than makes up for in panoramic views, pure single track and the iconic Mammoth Rock itself. I've been riding for 5 months and this trail was perfect for my skill (lack thereof) level. I rode up to Lake Mary Road from our condo (Juniper Springs Resort) and then up Lake Mary Road to the trailhead for the Panorama Dome Trail which is across the road from Twin Lakes. That in itself was a workout at around 9,000 feet (I'm 62 and a newbie). The short Panorama Dome trail was fun and hinted at what was to come on the Mammoth Rock Trail. When it ended near the top of Old Mammoth Road, I coasted downhill a hundred yards or so the the upper trailhead of the Mammoth Rock Trail. Doing the trail this way, the incredible eastward views were always in my peripheral view and the ride was (almost) all downhill. I love this trail, it was the most fun I've had since starting riding this June, will definitely return to Mammoth (off-season) for more of this and other trails.

Review: Fun single track that gets narrow and a little technical in some places with moderate exposure. i would say if you have decent bike handling skills / intermediate you should have a lot of fun on this trail.
