Trail Description
About this trail
Lake Storey Trail System is made up of various single track loops, connected at times by paved bike path or open grass sections. The trails traverse numerous drainages around the lake. They are tight and flowy with various wooden features added to keep things interesting. A large portion of LSTS traverses within feet of the lake edge, providing beautiful views while riding.

The park is open till midnight, so night riding is open all year long. Trials are meticulously maintained by a local group of riders all year long, regardless of season. They are built by mountain bikers, and used by riders and hikers a like. Trails are true single track, and built to be mountain bike trails. You can always bet the trails will be in great shape, and ready to rip! Call the local bike shop, Ride & Run, for trail conditions and any questions you may have. Lastly, as with any trail, don't ride when it's wet!

Review: Trails are very well maintained. Most of the trails dry out quickly due to the hilly terrain. Big thanks to the trail builders. I love having this system three miles from the house.

Review: Nice trail. New signs are a plus but still lots of places to get off track completely if you are new. Some lake front trails will disappear due to erosion soon. Shocked at the number of man-made bridges.....I like this trail but if this is a 5 then Kickapoo would be a 10!

Review: Just an update...we are in the process of taking care of a section we hoped would dry out but has not. It will be a technical rock garden. It will have no go a round so walking may be some less experienced riders option. This trail is a little old school in the idea you will need mountain biking skills not just road riding ones. There are bare logs and a few narrow rooty parts near the water. It still is a beginner trail as the early 90's standards. Nothing very high and no log over 12 inches high.

We laid out the trail for a normal ride counter clock wise. And for new riders to the trail, parking at the NE corner of the big pavilion (Machin Dr) and riding due west over the grass to the paved path, then a short ride to an entrance, right hand side of the end of the walk way bridge is the best way to start. We are waiting on the city still to make our signs and we hope you will understand that it is easy to miss part with the long grassy sections and paved parts you must ride without any markings. We hope to put up some temporary stakes or flags to help soon. It is a brand new trail so it is still bumpy and raw in spots.

It is best to roll everything the first time through to make sure you are capable of the air you might get at a fast speed. It is only 5 miles and the second lap is a blast when you know what to expect.

Also there are a lot of Fishing and older X country running trail we must cross so be patient if you get off on one. The signage with be coming soon.

Open till midnight for the brave

Thanks for making a trip to Galesburg

Review: This may be bias but, I know most riders will enjoy the work we have put into such a small trail. Having been one of the originators of the Farmdale trail in Peoria Illinois and Springlake Trail in Macomb Illinois, I can say that this trail, although a beginner oriented trail has a lot of the flavor of both of them. Expect a few days wait after a rain though. The area is surround by flat land. And we are still in the process of tweaking the wet areas. It is a great night ride and open till midnight. Try the local micro brewer/eats Iron Spike or Baked the best pizza in lower Illinois (only my opinion) and please stop by and thank Drew at Ride and Run for his work out at the lake.

Review: Great new trail system! It's so nice to have something so close and it's better than 1/2 the other trail systems within and hour of here!

Review: Great little trail system, well worth the visit. Easily accessible, flowy, fast, and well built with good use of land typography. Beautiful views of the lake, and fun features to ride. Fast downhill sections with challenging climbs. It is a series of loops that can be connected to form one large loop, or if you like one section, run the same loop over again!
