Trail Description
About this trail
Most people will only be able to ride this trial downhill. So, after parking at the trailhead climb Deadman Rd. east 2 mi. to Killpecker Rd. (FR 300). Take a right onto Killpecker Rd. and climb to Elkhord Baldy Rd. (FR 517; another 7 mi.). Take a left, and ride for another mile to the Killpecker Trail (956) after passing a hiking trail. Killpecker Trial crosses Killpecker Rd. 3 times and can be accessed at any one of these crossings for a shorter loop. Enter the trail and find a gnarly rock and root infested downhill in Roosevelt NF. The trail crosses Killpecker creek, and ofters drop-offs, curvacous singletrack, and rock gardens. The trail is marked where it crosses Killpecker Rd. This is a multiuse trail, including ATVs, so decend with caution. And don't do what the trailname suggests (females excluded).

Review: If you are riding rigid....the name of this trail is not a joke.

Review: So I tried to be burly and bike north lone pine uphill and then down killpecker. This was a mistake. the first half of north lone pine was not too bad, then I ended up hiking way more than I wanted. The descent was alright. Fun technical descent. Then I had to ride the road back to the car. This was NOT the way to ride either trail.

Review: Another trail in Red Feather listed as FtC. Give RFL it's credit. Fun Downhill. Lots of rocks and loose sections, but not nearly as bad as north lone pine. Some sections of trail washed out. Trail crosses access road so easy to loop around to ride sections again.

Review: Definitely take the 300 to the 517 to the trail head. Riding this thing up would be a disaster. Great suspension test on the way down. Rocky and root covered almost the entire trail. All ridable though. I'm rating it very difficult because of the length of the ride and the consistent roughness of the downhill portion.

Review: The gate is closed if you take the FR 300 route but the trail itself did not appear to be closed. If you want to just do downhill you can have someone drop you off at the end of the trail (once the gate is opened). From the very end there's only a couple hundred feet of gain or so before it's (technical) downhill the rest of the way.

I ran out of water (100+ oz) so took 300 back the third time it crosses since I didin't want to do any ascending on Deadman road to get back to my car without water. (I parked where 300 takes off instead of the trailhead)

Review: I was only able to access the lower section of the trail from Killpecker Rd. because of too much snow in the upper sections on Memorial Weekend. Rocks and roots. The entire things would be a jarring decent.
