Mountain Biking Jones Creek

*****   Add a review
#526 of 1,368 mountain bike trails in Colorado
#5,471 in the world

From the lot, head back to FR 576 and make a left. Make a right onto Jones Creek Trail #518, about 0.2 miles later. This is a robust climb (~1,700 feet total elevation gain in just over 4 miles) broken up briefly by a couple of short descents. Overall the trail rates as moderate, but there are a couple of rocky sections, a few switchbacks, and a few sections with a 15% grade. The trail runs through a lush forest with ponderosa, spruce, and aspen trees. After entering a meadow (watch for grazing cows!), reach the T intersection with the Pinkerton-Flagstaff Trail at about the 4.5 mile mark. After catching your breath and refueling, turn around and enjoy the ride back down.

Getting there
From Durango, take Main Avenue/US 550 North to Hermosa. Turn left at the northern turnoff for CR 203 (just before the railroad tracks cross the highway), following the signs to the Lower Hermosa Creek Trailhead. Make an immediate right onto CR 201. This road will turn to dirt and become FR 576. Turn left at the Lower Hermosa parking area after about 4 miles.
