Trail Description
About this trail
This is a wide trail that probably averages 3-4 feet in width. It is very well maintained and marked. There is a loop with an offshoot to the peak. There area number of very good views. The trail involves a lot of climbing. If you proceed West there is another trailhead that passes a road an connects to another system. The next section of trail after the road is a good ride as well. After that (further West) it becomes very sandy and I will not ride that section again. If you proceed East from the Redbird Trailhead there is another section of trail with another 5 miles of trail or more. Again, there is a lot of climbing but very good views, including of Devil's Gate. If you don't like climbing this trail is probably not for you. But I went up to Johnson Peak from I belive a clockwise direction, and the downhill and Johnson Peak is extremely fast and reminded me of a pump track in one section. I enjoyed the system and it reminded me of riding in Idaho with the topography and rocks. If you go to the Possum Kingdom Trailhead (on the East side of the system off LaVilla Road, there are restrooms).

Review: There is a pretty good trail system in this area. They are too wide, but rocky enough to still have some technical challenge. The western portion is very sandy and probably should be avoided unless you like that sort of thing.

Review: The downhill off Johnson Peak is one of the most fun sections around here. There are several dips and someone has made some little optional jumps. The rest of the trail is well signed, with several area to park. It's a nice getaway from DFW.

Review: Given its location, I'm not sure it gets a lot of use. But if you are in the area (about 2 hours West of Dallas in the Possum Kingdom area) I would recommend the ride. It was a nice change from the DFW trails. The physical effort and some tight switchbacks are the most difficult aspect of this trail.
