Trail Description
About this trail
From the Visitor Center parking lot, the trail goes past the cannons on the hill, which are behind the old cabin and cotton gin. When the trail comes to a gravel road, keep an eye out for small orange flags on metal sticks, these mark where the trails enter the gravel roads before entering the woods again. Jackson Hill was the location of Fort Norton, an eathern fortification system, which defended Rome during The Civil War. The bike/hike trail was opened Fall of 2011. The Assail the Trail mountain bike races were held at Jackson Hill on Nov 5-6. Cycle Therapy on Broad St built the trail and has a map of the trail system. Parking is available in the Rome-Floyd County Visitors Center parking lot.

Review: This is a relatively short series of singletracks that are looped. The trail is quite narrow with rolling hills and a few sharp switchbacks. There is a one set of trails with jumps. These heavily wooded and hilly trails can be difficult in the fall as a result of fallen leaves and pinestraw that affect tire grip and traction. A nice set of trails for in-town riding.

Review: Has plenty of potential. The local shop has worked hard on it and created really fun trails.

Review: I rode here for the first time today. Felt like I was on a roller coaster. For a very short trail, it packs in a lot of fun. If you are close to Rome, it's worth a go.

Review: Trails where nice. Not exactly easy to find the beginnings. Cycle therapy has done an axing job putting in jumps and some course stuff. I really enjoyed it a lot. Great for rome

Review: This is a great place to get a quick fix. Super fast, good mix of flow and climbs. Trail is fairly easy to follow just keep in mind the access road links the trail. There is a jump line up top off the main trail and looks fun but does not look like it sees much use. Trail is wide and hard packed not technical at all, but would be a great place to take a first timer. Hats off to the builders the trail fits the location and purpose. Some great history related to the site if you stop to check it out. Park at the Civic Center by the old cotton gin and the trailhead is right there. I rode it both ways and each way is equally fast and fun.

Review: I rode Jackson Hill for the first time back in March 2013, on a cold and drizzly day. The trail is not very long and, because of the small footprint, you find yourself in the same area frequently. There were not any trail maps posted at the time that I went - maybe that's changed. The guys at Cycle Therapy made a copy of the map for me, so it helped out.
The scenery is nice. There's an old water reservoir at the top of the hill with historic monuments.
All in all, the trails were in good shape, and had nice flow. You will probably find yourself pedaling a lot more than you expected.

Review: Went to Jackson hill today and the trails were great, the guys at cycle therapy have done a great job, the two outer trails and fun and flowing but they keep you pedaling and has a few jumps in the mix, the two inner trails will test you with rocks and some off cambers and some sharp turns and up hills, trails are great

Review: Short trail with decent singletrack and a few advanced sections with skinnys, log overs, and lots of steep off camber turns. It all drains relatively well other than the section at the bottom of the hill on the west slope. No prolonged climbs or downhills but the layout still allows you to work up a good sweat and pick up some speed. Wish there was more mileage but the space is certainly limited. Being this close to downtown Rome makes it a nice afterwoork ride.
