7/25/19. Overall the trail is pretty well kept up. When you cross Mauk road and get back in closer to the water the trail is a bit soupy due to all the rain, and there are a few areas that were not weed whipped yet. There are a few nettles that will touch your arms, if you are allergic to them like me, you will be itchy. Also the horse flies are out in full force. If you are new to the trail as I was today, there is a blue sign when you pull in stating the property (which consists of sand volleyball, disc golf, and agricultural things) is "property of Hillsdale College, and permits may be required". I spoke with a person hiking (a college student) he said there would be no issues. I told him that the trail is marked on an app i use, he said again that it was fine, that basically they don't try to advertise it. He did tell me to come back anytime.
