Trail Description
About this trail
The rolling woodlands and quiet waters of A.W. Marion State Park offer visitors a welcome escape from the rigors of everyday life. This small (309 acres) but unique park offers a variety of recreational activities while maintaining a quiet atmosphere of natural serenity.

The 9.5 mile singletrack weaves through the trees and include short but steep hills - up and down. Elevation for the ride ~825'.

From the Parking Lot, head towards the lake edge. You will likely see a line of singletrack along the edge of the water. I would suggest starting in a clockwise direction otherwise you may not see the MTB trail markings if going counter-clockwise. Once you pass the boat dock, you will continue into the woods. There is one point where you will cross a wooden bridge, then up some steep stairs that you'll likely have to walk your bike up. At the top of the stairs, you can continue into the MTB trail to the left (careful, this section has the steepest section of MTB trail. Beginners may want to continue on the hiking path toward the campground). Once you hit the campground, the MTB trail is marked, and you will see orange paint on many trees alongside the trail. Follow the orange markings to continue on the trail, and you will make your way around Hargus lake. When you hit the dam, you can continue to the parking lot, or follow the MTB signs back into the woods, for another few miles before making your way back up tot he parking lot.

Review: This is my favorite trail in central Ohio. There's a lot of climbs followed by aggressive descents, as well as some more flat sections. Not a lot of tech. This is mainly a smooth, flowy trail with legburning climbs. I loved it and I'll definitely come back soon. I like this better than alum creek or chestnut ridge. I recommend parking on the west side of the lake near the bait shop. The trail entrance is just North of the bait shop and you'll continue clockwise around the lake. You can also park on the east side of the lake and follow the directions of the other review, but when you come out of the forest on the west side of the lake it'll be a little awkward trying to find the trail again (near the bait shop).

Review: The singletracks directions to the trailhead take you right to visitor parking. Ride your bike past the sign that says "ROAD ENDS IN LAKE", the trail starts off into the woods on the left. This trail has some technical features but is not the constant bone rattling roots like you have around a lot of the trails in central Ohio. There are some cool technical downhills and natural stream crossings. What kicks your butt here is the climbing. It is a great fitness challenge.

Review: The 7 mile upper lake loop is full of decent climbs and quick steep drops into creek beds. I think I changed alsmost 900' of elevation over my 7 miles. The climbs are no joke as well as the drops. I walked a few times. Has plenty of fun flowy sections as well. You feel as if you go through different ecosystems within the ride. It's really interesting and really enjoyable. Glad to have these upcoming trails in my back yard!
