Trail Description
About this trail
This ride is an eight mile loop in the Sam Houston National Forest. It is a easy ride all single-track around the lake and camping area. This is marked a bike trail but you do get some hikers sometimes. The trail is best run counter- clockwise and has some gentle hills and valleys. It is all in the woods and can be fast for more advanced riders( my PR is 45 minutes. If you camp you can make a weekend out of this. I usually make a couple laps in the morning, swim and fish in the afternoon then take another lap before dinner. There are showers and bathrooms and a great swimming area. This is a great place to take the family and begining mountain bikers.

Review: We have the best trail steward .... Jim Mackey and he has worked hard to get those trails back to pre-torrential rain fall conditions! One tree down on the new trail but easily ridable.

Review: Double lake is home to the smoothest flow trails I've ever ridden. There is around a 15 mile clockwise loop that takes you around the park composed of smooth rock free single track with a mixture of loose dust and grippy pine needle surfaces.

Double lake rewards you for riding fast as the trails are smooth and twisty but only become more technical at speed. On some longer sections you can ride for 20 minutes or more before having to make a decision at a fork in the trail which leads to long zen out flow sessions in the woods.

Review: Great trails. Few obstacles along the way. Two way traffic, hikers and horses so you have to pay close attention to what's going on around you. Very clearly marked. I love this trail.

Review: Great single-track trail system close to Houston. This is my favorite trail system in the Houston area. The original 8 miles of trails on the West side of the park are tighter and more technical with plenty of roots and sand - more like Huntsville. The newer trail expansion (12 miles) toward the East and South are faster and flowier. The whole system makes a good 20 mile workout. The trails are good for beginners, but can be challenging for more experienced riders - just pick up the pace. There are normally no maps available at the kiosk, so print your own in advance. Access is $6 per car for a day pass - usually on the honor system - so bring exact change to drop in the receptacle.

Review: I had an awesome time on these trails over Labor Day. The Trail of Woe is really fun and you can get some serious speed. Not too many obstacles but just enough to keep you on your toes. It's part of a National Forrest so don't forgot $5-6 bucks to pay for parking

Review: Nothing technical except for the spider webs. Do not be the first rider out. I must have ridden into 50 or more face size spider webs in the first 3 miles. :) Simple easy fun safe ride. Great for beginners. Campground was nice and Bubba the campground host was kind and informative.
