Mountain Biking Discovery Bike Park

***   Add a review
#116 of 265 mountain bike trails in Montana
#8,545 in the world

Discovery Bike Park is a lift assisted downhill bike park open on weekends from 11am to 5pm over summer. It's a ski-field in winter. There is one old chairlift that rises 1000 feet in about 10 minutes. There are about 5 miles of downhill trails ranging from easy (fire road) to extreme.

The trails have lots of features such as big table tops, large swooping bermed corners, kickers, gap jumps, drops, rollers, wooden structures, and so on. Most of the trails flow, especially S-line which is most riders favorite trail on the mountain. War Pig is the extreme trail with double wood road gaps - scary just to look at. The terrain is stony with a silty soil which makes for an "interesting" surface but the trails are quite well maintained - just braking bumps here and there.

There is a portable toilet but no cafe, shop, rental, or other facilities. You pay for the lift at its base by cash or card. There is a small fee if you don't use the chair lift. Latest prices and more information are here: http://www.skidiscovery.com/bike-park/

Getting there
Head south out of Philipsburg on MT1, Pinter Veterans Memorial Scenic Highway. After 7 miles you'll see a green metal double gateway on your left. You may also see the sign "Discovery Bike Park". Go through the gates and follow the rather rough metal road for about 4 miles to rough grassy car park at the base of the chairlift. This road is called Old Sawmill Gulch Road, but be warned Google Maps does not know it exists.
