Bald Mountain Road runs for about 11.5 miles from the Arkansas River up to gravel road #187. It's a 4x4 road the whole way and is VERY SANDY in spots, making this an ideal fat biking route. There are a few short spurs off of this road as well, including one that climbs Bald Mountain itself.
Review: Bald Mountain road provides great access to singletrack and doubletrack, but by itself, it's not a bad ride. However, I'd recommend a fat bike so that you don't have to hike through the endless stretches of deep sand.
Review: The north eastern segment of this road is nice hard pack and a great way to get to trails 1423, 1424 and 1425. The south western part (starting at the Ruby Mtn. TH) is deep sand. You will need a fat bike or a very strong will to ride this. On a fat bike it is not too much problem going up (slow but steady) and pretty fun riding down.
