Mountain Biking Baikie Hut

This 18km out-and-back ride on generally smooth four wheel drive tracks goes up the expansive Twizel River flats to a little old four bunk back-country hut used by hikers and deer stalkers.
It makes for a nice day ride or a mellow overnight back-country adventure amongst the towering foothills of the Southern Alps. You don't get views over Lake Pukaki or the high peaks that are just behind the big up close hills.
Something you'll notice is how pine trees are starting to smother the New Zealand high-country.

From Twizel go north on highway 8 to the Mount Cook turnoff and head up that road for about 4 km where you'll find the carpark.
