Arch Hill Reserve is a ribbon of grass and hillside bush running along beside the North West Motorway. It is less than 4km from the heart of downtown Auckland.
There is over 3km of really neat singletrack, catering to most abilities. There is an easy trail called "Training Wheels" among trees along the flat beside the motorway. The other trails are benched into the hillside and need at least intermediate riding skills. They're all-weather, hand-made singletrack and lots of fun. Precision riding is required in places.
The trails are looked after by the Auckland Mountain Bike Club. More information is here: http://aucklandmtb.co.nz/trails/arch-hill/ There is even an Arch Hill Facebook feed: www.facebook.com/ArchHillMTB
