    I would recommend

    Pros
They are reliable, consistent and affordable. What more do you want.

    Cons
Not stop on a dime strong but great for the money.

Some have claimed that SLX has the same power as XT brakes, but in extreme conditions (ie cold, snow, extended shuttle runs down massive mountains), I could definitely tell that I wasn't getting as good of performance out of SLX as XT. Still, I'd probably choose SLX brakes over just about anything else any day of the week, and the price is definitely right!

    Pros
Solid, great modulation, no squealing, affordable

    Cons
Not quite as smooth or as strong as XT brakes

If your bike came stock with lesser brakes, these are the best bang for your upgrade buck.'

    Pros
    Excellent heat shedding
    Good modulation
    Easy to bleed
    Plenty of stopping power

    Cons
Ships with very long hoses, need to be shortened at install.

I bought these after riding the stock Avid Elixers for about 6-8 months. I have been very pleased so far.

    Pros
good braking power and modulation. Good one-finger control.

    Cons
None so far. Maybe not as powerful as the higher level models.
