Been riding a friend's bike off and on for a few years that had one of these and it works as advertised. Pair it with decent shifters and you can't go wrong. Between the two of us, we've put a lot of hard miles on that RD and it hasn't failed yet.

    Pros
Tucked position minimizes rock strikes. Shifts smoothly, quickly and quietly.

    Cons
Newer RDs come with a clutch mechanism to prevent chainslap. the pulley wheel allen bolts holes are a bit soft so don't over torque them when tightening them after lubing/cleaning.

I like how it tucks away tighter to the bike. Less trail debris gets stuck in there. Shifts pretty clean too.

    Pros
    Lightweight, tucks away nicely.

Came on my '08 Dawg, roached it on my first ride on a log. Went with a shorter cage, removed my big ring and all is good!

    Pros
Smooth, fast shifting, less likely to snag on blowdown/rocks

    Cons
    Nothing really

I agree with Golden goose. It is pretty sturdy. But it won't withstand an encounter with a 3in diameter branch on the trail. I'm on my second one, lol.

    Pros
Great derailleur that is smooth shifting, quiet and designed to have a really low profile.

    Cons
    Nothing.

This is a great Rear derailleur that truely works as advertised. I was surprised to read someone bashing it, especially when the guy said it "broke where it bolted to the bottom bracket" on his second ride. It doesn't bolt to the bottom bracket. NO Rear derailleur bolts there. Maybe that's the problem. I've been riding this RD for over 1000 miles and had ZERO problems with it. In fact, a buddy of mine upgraded to the exact same derailleur after having problems with his X7 and riding my bike.

    Pros
Light. Sturdy. Lower profile than regular derailleur. Quiet with smooth, quick shifting. Cheap.

    Cons
Allen bolts on pulley wheels strip easily.

I bought this derailleur along with the XT shifters for my Fisher Tassajara HT. (upgrade from LX). Money well spent. The gear changes are spot on, after 80+ miles of trail i have not had to make any adjustments. Same great technology as XTR for fraction of the price and a minimal weight difference.

    Pros
Light weight, smooth reliable shifting, low profile

    Cons
    nothing yet...
