Rider Questions

Q: I am at the top of the size in XS/SM with exactly 26cm. I might go for the next size which is MED/LG 57-59cm, any suggestions for this helmet or perhaps another brand to take in consideration for a durable investment? -Angello Reid

Model/Year: 2013

Pros: full coverage, lightweight, and very durable.

Cons: Doesn't breathe as well as like say a XC helmet. The paint on mine is starting to chip also.

Recommendation: If you ride more then just occasionally I fully recommend it.

Model/Year: 2015

Pros: Most comfortable helmet
one piece liner
great styling

Cons: sweaty
doesn't vent well in the front

Recommendation: I will be trying another helmet this year due to the lack of venting upfront because of sweat dripping in my eyes. other than the heat this helmet is excellent. It will be my go to on cold days though where sweating isn't as much of a problem

Model/Year: Troy Lee Designs A1

Pros: Great protection
Nice venting
Looks great

Cons: sizing is strange for me. I'm at the top of the small, but not quite a large. I wish there were one in between.

Recommendation: Great helmet that I use for more singletrack and/or XC usage as I want a little more protection at the back of my head than the typical XC helmet provides. Ratcheting system works great.

December 15, 2014
Model/Year: 2014

Pros: Comfortable
Good ratcheting

Cons: Compatibility with light mount?

Recommendation: I'm fortunate enough to have access to a shop that has a huge selection of helmets in terms of different manufacturers. I tried on every helmet in this genre narrowing it down to 3: Bell Super, IXS, and this TLD A1. In my opinion, the other 2 looked better aesthetically, but i could not let that persuade me over the comfort of the A1 which far surpassed the other 2. Keep in mind no 2 heads are the same and helmet molds differ btw companies, but the A1 fit me the best. I've not used it in summer yet so I cannot comment on its ventilating properties. If you have a chance to try, it would be a mistake not to give this helmet a look-see. I did have some trouble mounting my light, but I prefer zip ties and Velcro straps solved the issue. Just make sure you're happy with mounting stuff on it before you buy if you do mount stuff.

Model/Year: 2014 a1 orange small

Cons: Air flow is not as good as a road helmet - the price of protection
Don't want to fall off and scratch it!

Recommendation: Buy

Model/Year: 2014 A1 Drone Gray

Pros: After a half of a season of riding this was a great buy. Very comfortable with great coverage. My other helmets felt bulky and uncomfortable but not with this. The padding is in all the right places.

Cons: Maybe the cost, but if you want quality, the extra money is worth it.

Recommendation: Save your pennies and get this helmet.
