Pros: I found a good deal on a Pivot Mach 5 in February of 2018. I had been riding a Mach 429 for the past year and always heard good things about the Mach 5 so I decided to give it a try. It took a couple rides to get the suspension dialed in, but this thing is a blast! I put a 27.5 wheel on the front. Pivot and Fox wouldn't recommend it, but WOW...this thing is a blast! I hate to sound like a professional reviewer, but this bike begs me to go faster. On technical climbs and smooth trails it rides like a cross country bike. On rocky downhills I am carrying speed that is beginning to scare me and have started looking for things to jump. At 10 years old, this is still a great bike. It feels right at home from the flowy trails at FATS in South Carolina or the technical Apex in Golden, Colorado. Pivot's build quality is excellent and dw-link suspension is the real deal.

Cons: There aren't enough of these bikes on the used market.

Recommendation: If you are a beginner looking for a quality bike or an intermediate rider who wants to get better, don't hesitate to buy a Mach 5. In my experience, you would be hard pressed to find a much better bike under $2,000.
