Pros: Lightweight, smooth shifting

Cons: fragile and costly

Recommendation: Great race shifter, lightweight and smooth shifting all the time, watch out for those roots, will bust it up quick.

Pros: - Flawless shifting
- very durable
- needs very little adjusting and maintanence
- long cage so it can clear 3 gears in one shot

Cons: - have not come across any any of yet

Recommendation: I have had this derailuer on a hardtail for a couple seasons and it is awesome. I have no complaints as it functions wonderfully, is easy to service and does not require constant adjustment and maintenance

Pros: I like this rear derailer, looks really cool, shifts really nice, tunes up really nice, stays in tune.

Cons: price

Recommendation: Even though this is a little expensive,it still makes sense to own this item if you ride regularly,it is dependable and reliable....

Pros: Shifts perfectly, every time
Rapid rise works well when shifting on an uphill, and/or under load
Strong construction

Cons: None

Recommendation: On a recent trip to Moab, two people in our group broke their Sram X-9 rear derailleurs, both on Slickrock Trail, both in the same part of the Sram's plastic body.
If you ride a lot, and have the money, get this model, if you're on a budget, get the cheaper XT.
The XT is heavier, and doesn't shift quite as well (I currently own both) but both models work as advertised, and are priced according to their respective features.
Either way, Shimano will get you there and back with minimal fuss.

Pros: Great crisp shifting, will shift under load. Reverse spring helps shifting uphill.

Cons: none, so far

Recommendation: I replace an XT rapid rise with this one. It shifts a little better than the XT. Will shift under even extreme load uphill. Super shifting up and down. Love it!
